How to find an original Persian Rug?

Persian rug – the significance

Persian rugs are hand-woven rugs or carpets made in Iran with distinct characteristics of superior wrap with heavy yearn. The weavers use the superior quality materials and follow the thousand-years-old techniques of coloring and designs. Carpet weaving in Iran is a significant manifestation of their art and culture. Approximately 1.2 million weavers in Iran are engaged in producing rugs or carpets for domestic and international markets. The rugs made in Iran are true Persian carpets.

Identifying Original PersianRugs

•    Persian carpets and rugs are the exact representation of the early Persian culture and art. The Persian rugs are only made in Iran and are the only genuine ones. The authentic Persian rugs come From Iran.
•    Persian rugs are handmade. There is hardly any use of machine or use of any artificial materials or resources. The colors used are naturally made from vegetable or plants extracts. The machine made rugs have a uniform drape and network at the back of the rugs. While the handmade ones have somewhat curvy wraps and hand-knotted wefts at the back.
•    The Persian carpets always carry a tag or label signifying the origin of country.
•    Often the rugs contain the signature of the designer or weaver and at times the date of the make. You will note this at the upper part of the carpets.
•    To identify the original Persian rugs check the knots per square inch or KPSI. If the knots are 250+, KPSI then it indicate superior quality rugs and if it is less than 150 KPSI, it indicates the poor quality rugs.    
•    The Persian rugs are always unique. You will never find a similar Persian carpet in the Iranian market. The wavers knit unique pieces using diverse designs, colors, and patterns by means of their skills – both imaginative and creative.  
•    The Persian rugs made by the city weavers represent High Quality products. Often you will find intricate motifs and designs that are ancient and symbolic.
•    After purchasing the Persian rugs, it is better to get a certificate of authentication. It will help you when and if you plan to sell the rugs. The certificate will facilitate you to get better price.

The Age Classification

•    If the Persian rugs is less than fifty years it is marked as old rugs
•    When it is between 50-80 Years Old then it is called semi antique.
•    When it is 80 years then we can call it antique.

The Cleaning Process

Persian rugs or carpets are maintenance free due to the use of fine materials and for the rigidity in the knots. Nevertheless, if you want to clean it then use of electric sweeper is recommended. If something has spilled over it, then clean it with mild detergent. In this regard, it is important to note that while using mild detergent it is important to get the moisture out very quickly. However, it is always advisable to engage a professional cleaner to clean the carpets that is made from silk as it is extra delicate compared to Persian rugs made fromwool.
