Choosing Rugs and Carpets
For some people, rugs and carpets are a choice made for décor, but like other things that you may buy for your home, you may have some very practical reasons for adding these to any room. Carpet is something that can help your home hold on to heat in the winter, and can prevent some slips and falls. Rugs that are placed here and there, as long as they are placed properly, can prevent messes, and may making cleaning easier. Along with all that, they can change the entire feel of your home. Your choice of flooring may be more important than you think.
If you live in a cooler climate that has drastic seasonal changes, rugs and carpets can be about keeping warm. These can hold some of your heat, allowing your rooms to warm and stay warm more easily. Floors that have no rugs and carpets often are cooler on the feet, which can make you cold in the winter. If you have good carpeting, your home will simply be more comfortable. You don’t have to have it in every single room, but you can put it in bedrooms, hallways, and your living room and/or den for more comfort for everyone.
There are going to be areas where you do not want to put full wall-to-wall carpet. These areas might be in some hallways, kitchens, and bathrooms. Because there is so much that could ruin your carpet in these areas, most don’t like to have carpet there. Instead, think about rugs and carpets that are categorized as area rugs or throw rugs. These can be put where you stand the most, where people walk into the house and track dirt, mud or snow, and also where you can pick them right up to clean them when needed while protecting your flooring beneath.
Rugs and carpets are a great idea for traction if someone in your home tends to fall. Though we most often think of infants and the elderly when it comes to problems with balance and falling down, there are plenty of adults that are rather clumsy and tend to fall down. Rugs and/or carpeting can be a great way to help prevent some of these falls. Place them around corners and where the floor tends to be more slippery and well used. Make sure they are secured firmly to the floor though, or you may have more of the accidents you are hoping to avoid.
Overall, both rugs and carpets can add beauty to your home. They can give a room a more cozy feeling, and rugs can add some color to any home that is mostly made with tile or hardwood flooring. Having a lot of area rugs throughout your home does make cleaning your floors more complicated, but that just means that you have to find a better floor cleaning tool, like one that does hard and carpeted floors with out having to do too much extra work. There are plenty out there, so don’t let that stop you from getting the soft flooring you desire.
